Understanding research productivity in the realm of evaluative scientometrics

The combination of a variety of inputs (both tangible and intangible) enables the numerous outputs in varying degrees to realize the research productivity. To select appropriate metrics and translate into the practical situation through empirical design is a cumbersome task. A single indicator cannot work well in different situations, but selecting the 'most suitable' one from dozens of indicators is very confusing. Nevertheless, establishing benchmarks in research evaluation and implementing all-factor productivity is almost impossible. Understanding research productivity is, therefore, a quintessential need for performance evaluations in the realm of evaluative scientometrics. Many enterprises evaluate the research performance with little understanding of the dynamics of research and its counterparts. Evaluative scientometrics endorses the measures that emerge during the decision-making process through relevant metrics and indicators expressing the organizational dynamics. Occupational health hazards of library professionals in India

The paper revisits a wide variety of health hazards in the library workplace. Through an exhaustive review, it explores the underlying causes of occupational risk & injuries to library workers; aiming to raise the awareness of healthy working practices and statutory requirements. It reflects the viewpoints surrounding the health and safety in libraries to illustrate possible health hazards of library workers in an Indian context. The paper informs about a variety of burdens that persist in the library workplace. It also outlines the major causes of occupational risk in terms of physical, chemical, biological, technological, emotional, and psychosocial hazards. It reveals how occupational hazards emanate in the library workplace and how library managers can prevent these hazards by creating health & safety compliance in the workplace. The paper concludes that there is a need for transforming the library profession to improve the level of occupational health practices ensuring standard norms and follow-up actions

Review on matrimonial information systems and services - an Indian perspective

Usually some agencies and other de-institutionalized sources become operative in producing and transferring great variety of matrimonial information. In recent time, online matrimony portals accelerate the opportunities of providing newer matrimony services for sharing matrimonial information more comfortably and selectively, though often criticized in terms of adequacy and authenticity of such information. This paper aims to present a brief account on marriage information systems and services with reference to India, thus provide glimpses of popular matrimony sites emerged in last two decades. It evaluates the usefulness and web-metrics as well as popularity of broad-spectrum matrimony portals; those have become accessible to diverse Indian communities, and beyond the geographical boundaries. Reframing the Debate on Quality v/s Quantity in Research Assessment

The debate on quality versus quantity is still persistent for methodological considerations. These two approaches are highly contrasting in their epistemology and contrary to each other. A single composite indicator that reasonably senses both quality and quantity would be significant toward performance.
